Jaipur: Terming the old pension scheme as a shield of socio-economic security, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed hope that his decision to re-implement it in the state will attract more talented youth to government service in future. Gehlot said that the new pension system (NPS) in its present form is problematic and employees across the country are demanding restoration of the old pension system.
He said, ‘In order to protect the interests of the employees of Rajasthan Government and to provide them security after retirement, the Congress Government of Rajasthan has decided to restore the old pension system for all the employees who joined the government service after January 1, 2004. did.” “I have announced to implement the old pension system from the next financial year in my budget speech in the state assembly on February 23, 2022,” he said.
According to Gehlot, this decision has been welcomed not only by the Rajasthan government, but also by the employees of all the states. Government jobs cannot have a pay scale more than a certain limit, but due to future security from pension, talented youth preferred government jobs.
He said that it was seen that after the implementation of the new pension system, the trend of talented youth towards government jobs was reduced and due to the decision to re-implement the old pension system, more number of talented youth would be attracted towards government service in future. He said that a government employee serves for 30-35 years and after retirement lives his life on the basis of pension. He said that unfortunately this old pension system was abolished by the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in December, 2003 and in its place the new pension system was implemented from April 1, 2004. He said that the new pension system in its present form is problematic and the employees across the country are demanding restoration of the old pension system as the new pension system is not able to meet the present and post retirement needs of the employees.
Gehlot said that it is said about the old pension system that it will increase the financial burden on the governments and the work of development and public welfare will be affected. He said that it is important to understand the fact that even when the old pension system was in force, the country had made great progress in every field. He said that the works of development and public welfare were never curtailed due to the old pension system. He said that the Rajasthan government has restored the old pension system keeping in mind several factors.
According to the Chief Minister, the Rajasthan government never compromised with its development plans despite NPS. He said that even after the implementation of the old pension scheme, development work would continue in Rajasthan and the Government of Rajasthan was fully aware of the concerns prevailing among the employees due to NPS.
He has said that social and economic security is provided to the employees under the old pension system, so the Rajasthan government has decided to restore the old pension system keeping in mind the interests of the employees.
