Various initiatives are being taken to rapidly increase the vaccination in the fight against the corona virus. Under this, incentives like free cars are being offered for those who want to get the COVID-19 vaccine shot. Cars worth more than Rs 10 lakh will be given to improve the slow rate of vaccination.
This offer is only for Russian people. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin made the announcement on Sunday, hoping it would improve vaccination rates and in return people would get to drive a new car for free. The mayor said that any person above the age of 18, who receives the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from today ie June 14, his name will be automatically entered in the lucky draw to win a car. This unique scheme to attract people will run till July 11.
A total of 20 vehicles will be distributed
Over the next four weeks, at least five cars will be up for grabs every week. A total of about 20 vehicles are likely to be provided as part of the Moscow mayor’s initiative to drag people to vaccination centres. As far as the Covid-19 cases are concerned, Moscow is one of the most corona affected cities in Russia. The Russian capital recorded 7,704 new cases on Sunday, the most in a single day since December 24. In total, 14,723 cases have been registered in Russia.
Earlier, the mayor of Moscow had expressed disappointment over some residents not getting vaccinated. As of May 21, only 1.3 million out of a population of over 12 million had received the first dose. Russia began rolling out its Sputnik V Shot in December, and it was rolled out to everyone in Moscow rapidly.
The mayor said Moscow is trying to set up thousands of temporary hospital beds for Covid-19 patients. Residents have also been asked to stay off work this week to help stop the spread of the virus. Mayer said in a blog on Sunday, “This is only a temporary solution. To avoid the new restrictions and ensure a lasting improvement in the situation, we need to speed up the vaccination.”
