MahaMetro recommended running an elevated tirebase metro instead of a metro as the metro service in Nashik does not require a capacity of 20,000 passengers per hour. After getting the approval of Metro Neo Project in the cabinet meeting on 29 August 2019, a proposal was sent to the Center for approval. A provision of Rs 2,092 crore was made for the project in the Union Budget. Under the plan of Mahametro, two elevated routes of 31 km would be built for Nashik Metro Neo. A pair of buses with a capacity of 250 passengers of 25 meters will run on this route. Due to paucity of funds, it has been decided that the Municipal Corporation will provide the space for the project. Notably, the Central Government’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has taken the initiative to design, manufacture and supply a total of fifty coaches, 36 for the first corridor and 14 for the second corridor.
