Thane : While efforts have been made for the last several years to revive Thane Transport, the financial condition of transport has worsened in the last two years due to the Corona situation. As a result, it is learned that Thane Transport is facing a revenue loss of Rs 15 lakh per day. Therefore, to get out of this crisis, in this year’s transport budget, the demand for additional funds from the Thane Municipal Corporation has started rising. On the other hand, there has been a decline in the finances of Thane Municipal Corporation, so will the Thane Municipal Administration meet this demand or will the Transport Administration be disappointed. This will be known only after the budget to be announced by the Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma on February 10.
Last year, due to Corona, fewer buses ply on the road. Its effect was also seen on income. Therefore, in the estimate sheet presented last year, the Transport Administration had demanded a grant of Rs 284.63 crore from the Municipal Corporation. Whereas the Transport Committee, after discussing with the pros and cons, had demanded Rs 302.41 crore from the Municipal Corporation by increasing the amount of grant. But in the budget presented by the corporation, only 122.90 crore was given for transport. Due to which the transport administration had to be disappointed.

At present, there is no improvement in the transport situation due to Corona. During the Corona period, only 3 to 5 lakh rupees were being earned daily from transportation. But now that Corona restrictions have been eased, the transport sector is earning Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh per day. But in the meantime, before Corona, the transport was earning from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 27 lakh. According to him, even today the income seems less. At the same time, about 1.5 lakh passengers are traveling in transport buses. Even if the income of transportation is 22 lakhs in a household, the daily cost of transportation is around 35 lakhs. As a result, transport is facing a daily deficit of Rs 15 lakh. Currently, 250 buses are plying on the road from the transport fleet, but the number of buses parked in the depot for repairs is more than 150. Hence, this year also, transport has to work hard to balance revenue and expenditure.

Out of which the Municipal Administration is going to buy the said buses by spending Rs 38 crore.
