According to the information available on the Reserve Bank’s Twitter handle, its number of followers was 9.66 lakh on September 27, 2020, which has now increased to 10 lakh. Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das tweeted on Sunday, “The number of followers on the Twitter account of the Reserve Bank has increased to 10 lakh today. After the RBI, the central bank that has the most followers on Twitter is Banco de Mexico, the central bank of Mexico. This bank has 7.74 lakh followers. This is followed by the Bank of Indonesia with 7.57 lakh followers. The Federal Reserve, the world’s most powerful central bank, has only 6.67 lakh followers on Twitter and is at number four. At the same time, the European central bank is at number five with 5.91 lakh followers.
In terms of followers on Twitter, the Central Bank of Brazil is at number six with 3.82 followers and Bank of England at number 7 with 3.17 lakh followers. Bank of Canada is at number 8 with 1.80 lakh followers and State Bank of Pakistan with 1.16 lakh followers. At number ten is the Reserve Bank of Australia, which has 49,200 followers.

America’s central bank was connected to Twitter in March 2009. The ECB has been associated with Twitter since October 2009. The Twitter account of the 85-year-old Reserve Bank started in January 2012. Governor Das has a separate Twitter handle, on which the number of followers is 1.35 lakh. The number of Reserve Bank followers on Twitter in March 2019 was 3,42,000, which more than doubled to 7,50,000 in March 2020. An official said that during the seven-week lockdown imposed during the Corona virus epidemic, the number of followers on the Reserve Bank of Twitter increased by more than 1.5 lakh.
