The peak energy demand in Delhi rose to six,780 MW, highest ever within the month of May, amid elevated use of cooling home equipment, officers stated.
The demand elevated by 2.8 per cent within the final 24 hours and seven.8 per cent since May 1. A day earlier than on Tuesday, the height demand of the town had clocked the season’s highest of 6,596 MW, based on the officers of energy distribution corporations.
The earlier excessive for the month was 6,461 MW on May 31, 2019. This is the eighth time in 10 days of May that the nationwide capital’s peak energy demand has crossed the 6,000 MW-mark, the discom officers stated.
Delhi’s peak energy demand in May didn’t cross the 6,000 MW mark in 2021 and 2020. In 2019, it had crossed the 6,000 MW mark solely on three events – May 29 (6,020 MW), May 30 (6,240 MW) and May 31 (6,461 MW).
The officers stated elevated use of airconditioners, coolers and followers are the principle purpose behind Delhi’s energy load. According to estimates, virtually round 50 per cent of Delhi’s energy demand in summers is due to the cooling load.
With an early onset of summer season in April, the height energy demand had been greater on 100 per cent of the corresponding days vis a-vis that of April 2021, 2020 and 2019.
The metropolis’s peak energy demand had breached the 7,000 MW-mark for the primary time — peaking at 7,016 MW — in 2018. The discoms have estimated that the height energy demand could go as excessive as 8,200 MW this summer season.
