Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced Battery Swapping Policy in the Budget 2022. He said that a special scheme will come for battery swapping. This is very important in terms of increasing the use of electric vehicles in the country. What is battery swapping, what are its benefits, how much will it boost the electric vehicles industry? Let us know the answers to these questions. The focus of the government is on increasing the use of electric vehicles in the country. This will reduce the consumption of diesel and petrol on the one hand and reduce pollution on the other. The Finance Minister said that under urban planning, efforts are being made to start more public charging stations. But, lack of space in big cities can become a hindrance for this. In this case, battery swapping policy can solve the problem. Battery swapping is a process. In this, the owner of the electric vehicle can replace the discharged battery with a fully charged battery. It has many advantages. Electric vehicle owner will not have to wait for the battery to charge. It can be understood with an example. Suppose you are going from Delhi to Shimla by electric vehicle. Your battery gets discharged on reaching Chandigarh. Now you will be able to travel further only when the battery is charged. It will take time to charge the battery. This will not make your travel experience good. If you get a fully charged battery by giving your discharged battery then your problem will be over. Battery swapping requires that the battery used in the electric vehicle is made to a standard standard. Only then will the electric vehicle owner be able to swap his battery with another battery. The use of electric vehicles will also be encouraged with the facility of battery swapping. Currently, the batteries used in electric vehicles are very expensive. Therefore, when the battery gets damaged, a lot of money has to be spent on buying a new battery. With the battery swapping policy, it will be possible to use the battery by paying some fees. Currently, only a few electric vehicle makers offer the option of battery swapping. These include Hero Electric, Okinawa Motors, Simple Energy and Bounce Electric. On the other hand, non-removable batteries are used in EVs of companies like Ather Energy, Ola Electric, Torque Motors. This means that their EV batteries cannot be swapped. The vehicle can be driven only after charging them twice. It can work in two wheelers, but it is not practical to use it in big vehicles including cars. If the government announces the battery swapping policy soon, then it will benefit the EV industry. The growth of the EV industry has been very rapid in the last year. High prices of petrol and diesel have prompted people to switch to electric vehicles. Auto companies are also placing more emphasis on launching models of electric vehicles. Tata Motors is an example of this. Also read: Budget 2022: TDS on crypto will give an income of 1000 crores to the government.
