Budget 2022: Addressing a joint sitting of both the houses in the Central Hall on the first day of the budget session of Parliament, President Ram Nath Kovind in his address on Monday appreciated the efforts being made to combat the corona virus epidemic. Highlights of the President’s Address
President Kovind said that despite the Corona crisis, the tireless efforts of the farmers have resulted in record production and export of food grains and horticulture crops in the country. During the year 2020-21, 300 million tonnes of food grains and 33 million tonnes of horticultural crops were produced. He said that along with the record production of crops, record quantities have also been procured at the minimum support price, which has brought economic benefits to the farmers.
The President said that during Rabi crops, 433 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured at the minimum support price, benefiting 50 lakh farmers. Similarly, 900 lakh tonnes of paddy was procured during Kharif season, which benefited one crore 30 lakh farmers. He said that during the year 2020-21, there was a growth of 25 percent in agricultural exports and it has reached three lakh crore rupees.
The President said that more than 11 crore farmers have been given financial assistance of one lakh 80 thousand crore rupees from the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi. Small farmers have also got the benefit of changes in crop insurance scheme. About 8 lakh farmers have been given a compensation of Rs 1 lakh crore for crop damage. He said that many programs have been started with the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund of one lakh crore rupees.
The President said that the government is working with determination for the security of the country, due to which self-reliance in the defense sector is continuously increasing. Regarding the efforts and success of the government to meet the needs of the armed forces within the country, he said that our forces have also issued a list of 209 such equipment which will no longer be procured from abroad.
He said that the goal of the government is that the goods needed by the forces should be developed in India and manufactured in India itself. Keeping this in mind, contracts have been signed with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to manufacture 83 LCA Tejas fighter aircraft. The government has given seven public sector undertakings to the Ordnance Factories.

Referring to the government’s plan to provide drinking water through tap to all citizens of the country, he said that under the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme, water is being supplied from tap to more than six crore rural households.

The idol of Mother Annapurna Devi, which was stolen from India 100 years ago, has been brought back and installed in the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Many such historical heritage from different countries of the world are being brought back to India today.
He pointed out that heritage and tourism are closely related to each other and said that today on the one hand India’s spiritual heritage is being rejuvenated, while at the same time modern facilities and infrastructure are being developed for the pilgrims and tourists.
