New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for the year 2022-23 on Tuesday. Sitharaman reached Parliament House on Tuesday with a tablet wrapped in a red cloth. Sitharaman said on Tuesday that the Railways will develop new products for small farmers, MSMEs. While presenting the Union Budget for 2022-23 in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman pointed out that employment and enterprise opportunities are increasing due to the efforts of the central and state governments.
He also said that 25,000 km of National Highways will be expanded in 2022-23 and “PM Gati Shakti” will be finalized in 2022-23 for Road Transport Master Plan.

The national emblem Ashoka Pillar was also inscribed in golden color on this red cloth, which contained the digital format budget. Earlier, the Finance Minister used to carry the budget in a red colored briefcase to the Parliament House. But since becoming the Finance Minister in the year 2019, Sitharaman started presenting the budget wrapped in red cloth in the form of a ledger in accordance with Indian tradition instead of a briefcase.

“Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman calls on President Ram Nath Kovind along with Ministers of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Pankaj Choudhary and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance, ahead of presenting the Union Budget 2022-23,” Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted. After this, the meeting of the Union Cabinet was held to approve the budget. The cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the budget for the financial year 2022-23 (April 2022 to March 2023) before presenting it in the Parliament.
