In this era of the epidemic due to corona, masks have become an integral part of everyone’s life, because wearing masks is the best way to stop the spread of the virus in the COVID-19 epidemic. Health care professionals are now wearing masks to check any patient. The whole world is doing this. There is no way for the general public to go anywhere, except wearing masks, because, in a densely populated country like India, social distancing is very difficult to follow.
Regarding this, Dr. Anish Desai, director of Strategic Medical Affair Adroit Biomed Ltd., says that it is necessary to wear a mask at this time. But it is very important to wear the right mask too, when you are going out, you have to wear mask for hours, which can cause general problems.
- Damage of facial skin with tight mask.
- Acne increases on the mask area.
Especially those associated with health care have to wear tight masks. In such a situation, the appearance of red stripes, irritation, enlargement of pimples, darkening of the skin, etc. occurs at the place of the mask. Because the skin of the face is soft and repeatedly rubbing the edges of the mask causes inflammation at that place. Which makes the skin there sensitive. Sensory nerves become active. It has more effect on sensitive skin. Lotions and creams are also unable to reduce it.
Doctor Anish says that wearing a mask actually causes direct friction on the skin, causing eruption and inflammation. Apart from this, the mask prevents moisture, saliva, mucus, oil, dirt and sweat from coming out. This can cause many skin related diseases like mild acne, eczema etc. A person with sensitive skin may face facial redness, rosacea, and scaling. This happens mostly to those people who have more sensitive skin or have a moist or dry environment around them.
Keep these things in mind…
- The mask should cover the nose and mouth well without hurting the skin, but not tight.
- Try to wash the face with mild soap twice a day.
- If you are not involved in health care, then avoid wearing masks for long periods. Take off your mask when you don’t have to wear it, like at home, while driving your car.
- When the mask gets wet, remove it and wear another.
- If you have to wear a mask for a long time, take the extra mask together and store the used mask in a separate plastic bag and wash it and dry it when you get home.
- Cotton face masks are good for the skin. After removing it, wash it with warm water and soap.
- After removing the mask, apply hypoallergenic moisturizer on the face. Do not apply ointment based moisturizer, as it absorbs sweat and oil.
- To reduce skin irritation with the mask, near the nose and central cheeks where nosepiece occurs. Use a cooling cream there.
- To keep the skin hydrated, moisturize after cleansing. Use oil-free moisturizer several times a day to reduce skin inflammation.
- Do not use scrubs and exfoliators on the face at this time.
- Skin dryness can be reduced with petroleum jelly or mild cream.
- If even after doing all these problems, then contact the skin specialist immediately and take the medicine.
- Do not forget to apply heavy makeup or foundation before wearing a mask, because it increases the chances of acne in addition to spots and spots.
