The help of experts will also be taken in analyzing the financial details and data present in the database of NCB and other agencies. These experts will also help the NCB teams in forensic audits. It will also help in checking documents and analyzing bank statements. The help of experts will also be sought in ascertaining the illegal income of the accused, his associates and family members.
Initially, it is proposed to attach these financial experts with the zonal offices of NCB located in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Guwahati. The NCB is increasingly detecting cases where the use of dark web, cryptocurrencies and multiple payment gateways has increased for narcotic deals.
The NCB official said that now specialized people are needed to investigate such cases. He said the agency is aggressively conducting ‘cyber patrol’ to investigate such crimes. He said that we are also going to form a cyber wing soon. The report of the empaneled private experts will help the agency to enhance the quality of investigation.
NCB had arrested 22 people last month. These included software engineers, financial analysts, MBA graduates. All of them were part of a larger drug trafficking network. The accused used ‘dark nets’ and cryptocurrencies to courier narcotics to people’s homes.
