Zhao has alerted users about this scam through a tweet. Along with this, he has asked users to visit Binance’s website through a bookmark or by typing it on the browser. This will ensure the security of the details of the users. He has given a screenshot in the tweet which is a text message through which Binance users are being targeted. This text message appears to have been sent from the exchange but it contains a fraudulent link. On clicking this, users are sent to a phishing website which takes the details of the users and grabs their funds.
It is not clear whether this type of phishing scam is happening only to users of Binance or users of other exchanges are also being targeted. Binance has not given information about the number of users who became victims of this scam. Hacking and scam cases have increased in the crypto market in recent times. One such big scam happened a few days back with the crypto platform Wormhole Portal. In this, fraudsters stole an amount of about $ 322 million (about Rs 2,410 crore). Crypto traders have also been warned about a new malware targeting plugins.
Cases of scams related to the crypto segment are increasing in India as well. Recently, a case of allegedly stealing cryptocurrency from a Delhi-based businessman came to light. The money was transferred to the wallet of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas. The digital currencies that were transferred fraudulently included many other cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ether. There have also been some other cases of cryptocurrency related fraud in which users have suffered heavy losses. It is also difficult to catch the criminals in such cases.
