Seven academics of Delhi University’s Academics for Action and Development have written to Yogesh Singh, vice-chancellor, DU, urging him to ‘review’ the suspension of appointment of educating and non-teaching workers within the varsity’s 32 schools with out common principals.
The transfer comes after the varsity’s assistant registrar, stated in a letter dated May 18, 2022 to varsity governing our bodies, that the appointment of educating and non-teaching posts shouldn’t be allowed both on a contract, advert hoc or common foundation until a daily principal is appointed.
The academics, together with the members of the Academic Council and Executive Council, have stated that the notification will adversely have an effect on the standard of the teaching-learning course of in such schools that are already short-staffed.
The academics identified that the notification additionally annuls the appointments with retrospective impact.
“Such steps shall unnecessarily penalise the concerned employees, including the teaching staff, with no fault of their own. Hence, the said letter dated 18.5.2022 needs to be reviewed without any delay,” the letter highlighted.
The academics requested Singh to take applicable steps to allow the faculty GBs to “continue performing their duties, vested in them by the university statutes so that the colleges shall continue to function efficiently without any disruption”.
At current, these 32 schools of Delhi University wouldn’t have common principals, officers stated. In the May 18 letter, it was conveyed to schools to take expeditious motion in convening the assembly of the choice committee for appointing common principals of the universities.
