The Punjab meeting on Thursday has handed a decision recommending the state authorities to induce the Centre to not alter the ‘status’ of Panjab University. However, the BJP, with its two MLAs, Ashwani Sharma and Jangi Lal Mahajan, opposed it, asking whether or not there was truly a proposal to alter the standing of the establishment right into a central college.
The decision was moved by Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, schooling minister, Punjab, who acknowledged Punjab had a proper over the Panjab University and the state authorities wouldn’t enable the Centre to alter its nature and character. “Panjab University is our heritage, and it is a matter of identity for us,” the minister mentioned.

The decision mentioned that any proposal for a similar, if into account, must be dropped with instant impact. “This House strongly recommends to the state government to take up the matter with the central government so as not to alter the nature and character of the Panjab University,” it added.
Participating within the dialogue, BJP MLA Jangi Lal Mahajan mentioned, “When there is no proposal, then what is the need for this resolution?” Congress MLA Pargat Singh, nevertheless, supported the decision, stating that the feelings of the individuals of Punjab had been linked with PU.
Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira accused the Centre of making an attempt to take over PU from Punjab.
