Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference president Sajad Lone on Wednesday termed “discriminatory” the federal government’s choice to shut colleges run by the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) and stated selective crackdown on establishments which have spiritual affiliations was grossly unfair and unjust.
An order was handed by Jammu and Kashmir School Education Secretary B Ok Singh on Monday directing cessation of educational actions in FAT-affiliated colleges and asking chief schooling officers of varied districts to seal the establishments inside 15 days in session with the district administrations.
“Selectively cracking down on institutions which have religious affiliations is grossly unfair and unjust. The administration must understand that J-K is an overwhelmingly Muslim majority state. They cannot possibly ban every institution because they have a bias against Muslims,” Lone stated right here.
Noting that the transfer was discriminatory, he stated, “It seems that they are intentionally targeting Kashmiris for petty electoral gains in the rest of the country.” The FAT, in keeping with the officers, is an affiliate of radical outfit Jamat-e-Islami (JeI) which is proscribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs beneath the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
To a query, Lone stated that now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Mohammad had been completely shameful and reprehensible.
“It is unlucky that the BJP is delicate to the criticism by the Arab international locations whereas utterly ignoring the feelings of Muslims residing in India. It is a matter of disgrace that the BJP apologised solely when there was a diplomatic backlash from Muslim international locations.
“Ideally in a democracy, the government should have voluntarily taken action against its spokespersons for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslim citizens of this country,” he stated.
Lone claimed that the “woes” of the frequent folks had been mounting with every passing day and stated the administration wanted to transcend rhetoric and make honest efforts to have interaction with the folks of Jammu and Kashmir for a long-lasting answer to the current challenges.
“The situation is tense and there is palpable fear. We have seen such phases in the past as well. However, there is a certain aloofness with which the current administration is being identified,” he stated.
Earlier within the day, greater than three dozen employees of the National Conference from Kupwara district joined the People’s Conference.
