Wegmans’ huge multi-level retailer on the Natick Mall might be shutting down this summer season, in accordance with firm officers who stated they couldn’t appeal to sufficient prospects to the non-traditional website.
The Natick grocery retailer opened in 2018, and was Wegmans’ first multi-level retailer inside a serious mall. The 134,000-square-foot retailer is likely one of the firm’s largest areas.
“Making these decisions is never easy,” Brien MacKendrick, human sources director of the Wegmans New England division, stated in a press release. “However, we do it for the long-term advantage of our individuals, our prospects, and our communities.
“Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location we are unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work,” MacKendrick added.
The retailer is ready to shut this summer season, with a precise date to be decided. Store workers had been notified all through the day, and had been assured their positions with the corporate are safe.
There are 365 workers (142 full-time and 223 part-time) on the Natick retailer, and all workers are being supplied positions at different space shops.
Wegmans has 5 different shops in Massachusetts: Chestnut Hill, Medford, Burlington, Westwood and Northboro. Wegmans stated it doesn’t have plans to shut another shops.
“We love our Natick community and customers, and we’re eager to pursue new store locations in the area for the future,” stated MacKendrick. “In the meantime, we hope to continue to serve our Natick customers through our e-commerce offerings and our other area stores.”
