A new study by the Prince’s Trust, founded by Britain’s Prince Charles, has revealed that young people around the world, including Indians, seek jobs that can help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. Preliminary findings of the HSBC-supported international study report ‘Future of Work’ have shown that 85 per cent of youth in India are interested in green jobs i.e. jobs related to the environment sector, although only 4 per cent are primarily employed in this sector. Huh.

Prince Charles said, “Young people want to be the drivers of change in efforts to prevent and deal with the climate crisis and the biodiversity crisis. I believe it is our responsibility to help achieve this if possible.” Prince Charles said this at an event at St James’s Palace in London last week. In this event, international business leaders discussed the role business can play in creating sustainable jobs for the future.

The survey, conducted among youth in four continents, including India, highlighted that youth want to be the agents of change in the face of climate crisis. Survey results show that four out of five (83%) youth surveyed in India will consider the environmental impact of the company or sector they wish to work in.
Digital sector is also the choice of youth
Emerging industries like digital also ranked high on the youth agenda. 83 per cent expressed their willingness to take up jobs in a sector related to the digital economy. The International Prince’s Trust says it has been operating in India since 2018 and runs entrepreneurship and employment programs in collaboration with local partners such as Magic Bus and the Aga Khan Foundation to help young people across the country learn and find work.
Prince Trust’s presence in 18 countries
The Prince’s Trust, established in Britain in 1976, says it is currently present in 18 countries and has helped one million young people with work, education and training.
