Help is coming for energy-intensive companies fighting the rising value of energy, the prime minister has mentioned.
Speaking on the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) convention in Birmingham, Rishi Sunak mentioned that authorities assist could be extra focused to those that are most in want.
Mr Sunak mentioned he recognised that issues have been “horrendously difficult” for energy-intensive companies over the previous 12 months and mentioned particulars of assist could be printed “in due course”.
He added: “I know it has been tough, as a first thing to say if you’re an energy-intensive business, the last six months, 12 months, have been horrendously difficult.
“That’s why we have put in place, as , an infinite quantity of assist – one thing like £55bn to assist each households and companies between now and the tip of the monetary 12 months.
“Going forward after that, given the circumstances, it’s right, responsible, that we adjust how that support works.
“It shall be extra focused at these companies that want our assist probably the most and that is one thing that the chancellor is engaged on as we communicate, and we’ll publish extra plans in the end.
“We recognise a particular issue with a group of industries who are very reliant on energy that we need to make sure we have a plan for, and so you can expect the chancellor to address that.”
Energy-intensive companies embrace issues like metal and paper mills, glass and ceramics.
