The new portal of Income Tax was launched earlier this month. However, since then there were complaints of technical flaws in it, regarding which the Finance Ministry held two separate meetings on Tuesday, June 22. According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed concern over the problems being faced by the people in the new portal. The new portal was expected to provide a better experience to the taxpayers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj, CBDT Chairman Jagannath Mohapatra and other senior officials were present in the first meeting. In this meeting, the Finance Minister asked Infosys to make the tax portal more user friendly. This was followed by another meeting with senior officials of the Revenue Department and the Infosys team, in which the technical flaws of the new portal were discussed.

Five services will be fine within a week
The Finance Minister has asked Infosys to immediately remove the flaws in the portal without wasting any time. During the meeting, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh, COO Pravin Rao and other company officials took note of the issue. Infosys informed that work is being done to rectify the technical glitches. The leading IT company informed that five issues like e-Proceedings, Form 15CA/15CB, TDS statements, DSC, viewing prior ITR will be rectified in about a week.
Problems surfaced within four hours of launch
The new IT (Income Tax) portal was launched on June 7 and technical issues started cropping up within four hours of its launch. In this, basic login issue, problem in generating OTP in Aadhaar validating process, problem in generating password are prominent. Apart from this, there were also problems in linking old data of past returns and filing ITR. After this, the Finance Minister called Infosys, which prepared this project, for a meeting so that these technical flaws can be removed at the earliest. The ministry had received 700 e-mails related to 2 thousand flaws from stakeholders regarding the new portal, in which 90 were unique issues.
