In the year 2022, cyber attacks on the worldwide cryptocurrency market will increase. State-sponsored groups could target the worldwide cryptocurrency industry next year, while cybercriminals could exploit backdoor investors and launder their money by creating fake wallets. Global cyber security and digital privacy company Kaspersky has expressed this estimate in its recent report Cyberthreats to Financial Organization.
Cyber attacks may increase on payment systems
Apart from this, there is also a possibility of an increase in attacks against payment systems and more advanced mobile threats in the coming year. Kaspersky has said in his report, “2021 was a year full of challenges. Cybercriminals quickly understand the changes for their benefit and make their plans on this basis. Their motives are usually related to money.” The report comes at a time when cybercriminals are targeting other cryptos, including bitcoin, to launder investors’ money.

What is said in the report
Apart from this, many types of estimates have been made in the report. The report says that in the year 2022, there may be an increase in the cases of attacks on cryptocurrencies by cybercriminals. Cryptocurrency is a digital asset and all transactions in it take place online. The report says that these make attacks easier for cybercrime groups. Not only cybercrime groups but state-sponsored groups can also take advantage of this. For example, Kaspersky predicts that the attack on the cryptocurrency business by the Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) group may continue.
Cybercriminals do not shy away from attacking the market and taking advantage of it. Dmitry Bestuzhev, Head of Global Research and Analysis Team, Latin America, Kaspersky, said in a statement, “We have seen many regional cybercriminals relocating to other regions of the world. Cyber security people are working very hard in this. In the case of crypto investments, Kaspersky has said that cybercriminals can take advantage of the manufacturing and retailing of counterfeit devices through backdoors. In addition, they can take advantage of social engineering campaigns and other techniques to steal financial assets of investors.
