Always searching for something new to learn in the field of technology, Namya Joshi asked her mother Monica for permission to use her laptop for a school project. At the time she was just ten years old, she saw Minecraft and asked her mother if she could work on it.

Monica felt particularly generous as Namya won a competition at the school that day and gave her a login credential. And the rest, as it is said, was history.

While working on Minecraft, she found that she could prepare her school lessons in a fun and interesting way.

A student at Sat Paul Mittal School, Ludhiana, Namya found that students of her age were easily distracted in the classroom, especially during some subjects, although it was interesting that teachers tried to create classes.

    She recalls remembering,

“When I was in sixth grade, I noticed that some students in my class were frustrated and easily distracted. I thought of doing something on Minecraft, which the students would enjoy without waiting for the bell to ring. “

    Make lessons fun and interesting

Namya crafted the “Egyptian civilization” on Minecraft and showed it to her teacher who used it in her lesson. They found that the concepts were easily understood when they were presented as a blind sport.

At the age of 13 Namya goes far beyond her knowledge, as she explains, “The human mind is designed in such a way that it is attracted to sports. Therefore, education can be used in education with the help of Minecraft, which makes it more understandable. ”

She says, “For example, you are learning area and volume in mathematics. There is a template on Minecraft that can be used to explain concepts better. In this way, it gets etched on the student’s mind rather than the manual way of writing on the board. “

The response from the students was overwhelming, and Namya was soon drawn to make it interesting to learn how to teach 104 students at her school. She also realized how she liked teaching his teachers.

“I understood the way teachers go and how patiently they explain a concept a hundred times without complaint.” It was also a learning experience, which helped me to be kind and empowered, ”says Namya.

The school also obtained a Minecraft license and integrated it into the course from grade 3 onwards.

    Meet Microsoft CEO

Soon, Namya was also recognized outside her school. Her mother, an IT expert and head of the IT department at her school, goes through her model for some teachers, and soon, Namya gets opportunities to educate teachers around the world with Microsoft teams.

She says she loves sharing her knowledge, in teaching, she is learning.

His biggest recognition came earlier this year when she was invited to be a part of the Young Innovators Summit in New Delhi. She was the youngest participant in the summit and saw her dream come true when she met Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

    She says

“Sharing the stage with an inspiring personality like her was an exciting experience. They asked me how I was using Minecraft for education. I also told him about my goal of “It One, Teach Ten” – if one person can teach 10 people and they teach others, it will become a series of teachers and learners. SHe appreciated the work and asked me to continue it.”

In addition to Minecraft, Namya teaches programs such as Scratch, Cahoot and Flipgrid in addition to being proficient in coding languages such as Photoshop, MS Paint and Python. She is also the student ambassador of SDGs for children.

During the lockdown, she has trained over 500 teachers and over 300 students. She was also invited as the keynote speaker at the Asia Berlin Summit to be held in September this year. She had the opportunity to give TED Talk for the first time at TEDxYouthSPMSLive why girls should not have all the fun. She has already spoken at KEOS2019 – a global education conference in Finland, where she also held a workshop for teachers.

It would be hard to believe how a 13-year-old student would fit into his life so and beyond.

As her mother Monica Joshi says, “Namya has always been a child full of energy, looking for things to do.” She is happiest when she is creative and always learning. She enjoys every moment and is able to create. ”

In addition to Minecraft, the young achievers spend their time in calligraphy, drawing, yoga and reading JK Rowling and Rick Riordan. She has a time table that she diligently follows daily, which she says helps to “bring time to fruition”. Apart from all these, she has time to post on her blog and also runs a YouTube channel which has Tech tutorials.

Namya grows up and wants to continue her studies in information technology. However, the ultimate objective is to be a social entrepreneur.

“I want to use technology to bring viable ideas at a cheaper cost and create lasting impact in society,” she says.
