According to a report published in Gizmochina, Ford is preparing to introduce power backup feature for homes in its Ford F-150 Lightning electric pick-up truck. To make this plan a reality, the company has partnered with US solar power company Sunrun. Ford says that the F-150 Lightning pick-up truck will deliver this feature thanks to its battery capacity. According to the company, the onboard battery of the EV is equipped with Extended Range System. With the help of this, it can store 131 kWh of power. It can supply the same power to the house for several days with an output range of 9.6 kW. Instead of gasoline and diesel, it is a clean energy option that can keep the house illuminated for more than 72 hours.
The Ford F-150 Lightning charging solution includes an 80 amp Ford Charge Station Pro and home integration system that lets it store truck power and automatically supply it to the home. The company has said about this, the system works in such a way that when the power goes out in the house, the Ford F-150 Lightning automatically turns on with the help of its Ford Intelligent Backup Power. Similarly, when the power is returned, it automatically turns off the supply. It is going to start soon in America.
Recently BYD has also launched smaller size electric school buses which claim to use similar technology. BYD These Type-A buses can also be used to provide power backup to schools. However, Ford says that the Ford F-150 Lightning is the first pickup truck to support bi-directional power supply. This technology of bi-directional power supply is still at an early stage in the industry. If this technology is successful then it is expected to increase tremendous demand in the coming time.
