The social media influencer Xiaogang Xuezhang, who has come under the scanner, is seen as a car expert, who has a large number of followers. According to an official release from Tesla China, the social media influencer has been sued by the company for defamation. The case is a step taken by Tesla to prevent bloggers and social media influencers from giving false information about Tesla vehicles.
The wrongdoers were advised to publicly condemn their false claims, or else there was a warning of trial. Several bloggers then publicly admitted that their claims were misleading. But Xiaogang Xuezhang stood by his claim, after which Tesla has moved the court.
This is the biggest ever case against a social media influencer in China. Xiaogang Xuezhang has made many videos related to testing and tuning of cars. These have been posted on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. The lawsuit against Xiaogang Xuezhang is about two videos from April 2021. In these videos, he compared the automatic emergency braking system in the Tesla Model 3 to the XPeng P7 car. It was also said that Tesla’s emergency braking system failed twice.
Xuezhang’s claim has been challenged by some Tesla buyers. He has said that Xuezhang may have deliberately set his foot on the accelerator. It is also claimed that Xuezhang ran this campaign against Tesla at the behest of the company’s opponents. It’s not yet known how the case will proceed, but Tesla hopes it will serve as a lesson to those who make false claims about the vehicles.
