America’s tech giant Tesla has remained as the top electric vehicle maker company since 2018. In December 2021, it did 1 lakh 70 thousand new registrations. After this, BYD sold 93,293 units and secured the second position. Apart from China, BYD is strengthening its hold in many countries around the world. SGMW* Joint Venture was at number three which made 61,306 registrations. In this list, Ford registered 500 registrations, Geely 11,348 registrations and Porsche 10,631 registrations. Several Chinese EV makers including Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW and SAIC have also made their place in this list.
Due to the Corona epidemic, there was a shortage of chips worldwide last year. Despite this, Tesla sold 87 percent more vehicles. Last year Tesla’s revenue (Tesla Revenue 2021) increased by 71 percent. Tesla made a profit of $ 5.5 billion (about Rs 4.1 trillion) in 2021 due to increasing demand for electric vehicles. But in the last three years, its market share has also registered a slight decline. In a recent press release, the company also said that there is still a shortage in the supply chain, the effect of which will remain till the middle of this year.
BYD is way ahead of Tesla in terms of growth. The company tripled the sales of vehicles in 2021. At the same time, Tesla’s market share stood at 14 percent in 2021, which was 17 percent in 2019. BYD is gaining ground not only in China but in many countries of the world. Recently, the company has announced the introduction of electric school buses in the US. These buses will be Type-A and will be made in smaller sizes than Type-D buses. These can be used to bring a small number of students. The company will use special offline grid technology in these, so that power can be provided to the school in free time.
