Tesla produced a few cars last year at its new factories in Texas, America, and Berlin, Germany. The company said scaling up production will depend on improving the supply chain and successful implementation of new technologies. Tesla CEO, Elon Musk told in a conference call that the company will not launch new models this year. The Cybertruck and Roadster are expected to launch next year. He said that the company is not yet working on an electric car worth around $25,000 (approximately Rs 18.8 lakh). Tesla’s revenue increased to $ 17.72 billion (about Rs 1,33,435 crore) in the fourth quarter. This is higher than analysts’ estimates of $16.57 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.
Compared to other automobile companies, Tesla has done well in handling supply chain constraints. For this, apart from using more number of available chips, the company has made efforts like changes in software. Tesla delivered a record number of vehicles to customers in the fourth quarter. Musk said that this year also the supply of the chip could be short. This problem is expected to go away next year. He pointed out that Tesla’s volume growth could be 50 percent higher than last year. This means Tesla expects to deliver more than 1.4 million vehicles this year.
Tesla said it would begin deliveries of vehicles with the new 4680 battery from its Texas factory this quarter. Musk said he expects Tesla vehicles to achieve full self-driving capability this year. The number of full self-driving vehicles in the US has increased to about 60,000, a few thousand more than at the end of September. Tesla is testing an improved version of its automated driving software on the roads, but the company says the features don’t make cars autonomous.
