Tata Motors has been planning to launch the CNG variants of the Tiago and Tigor in India for a long time. The company has now officially announced their launch date. The new Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG will be launched in India on January 19, 2022. Bookings for these are already open at select Tata Motors dealerships in India. These can be pre-booked by paying a refundable token amount of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000, depending on the dealership.

Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG have been awaited in India for a long time. This will be the first Tata car in the country to have a CNG powertrain. Currently, the Tata Tiago and Tigor get a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This motor generates power of 84.8 hp and peak torque of 113 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and also gets an optional 5-speed AMT.
The upcoming CNG versions of the Tata Tiago and Tigor are expected to get a de-tuned variant of the 1.2-litre petrol motor. Apart from this, the engine will only be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Also, it is worth noting that when launched, the Tata Tigor will be the only sedan in India that will be available in three different powertrains, petrol, CNG and electric versions.

The new Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG will be launched in India on January 19, 2022. The company can be expected to charge a premium of around Rs 50,000 – Rs 60,000 for the CNG variants of these cars over their respective petrol variants. The new Tata Tiago CNG will compete with the Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Suzuki WagonR S-CNG, etc., while the Tigor CNG will compete with the Hyundai Aura CNG.
