Tata Power has announced the signing of an agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to set up electric vehicle charging stations at its petrol pumps. Under the agreement, Tata Power will set up its EV charging infrastructure at HPCL pumps in several cities and major highways across the country.
The company says that giving electric vehicle owners access to greater charging infrastructure will enable them to travel seamlessly within cities and intercity. Customers will be able to use the charger through the Tata Power Easy Charge mobile application.
Tata Power says that the new partnership will play a strong role in encouraging EV owners to charge their electric vehicles at various petrol pumps. In addition, it is also in line with the National Electric Mobility Mission Scheme (NEMMP) of the Government of India. Developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure by using latest technology platforms along with easy access to electric vehicles for charging points.
Sandeep Bangia, Head EV, Tata Power said, “We are excited to partner with HPCL, who shares our vision of sustainable mobility. This strategic tie-up gives us access to HPCL’s vast retail base, especially in cities and major highways. This move will immensely benefit EV users as it will not only provide them easy access to charging points but will also address the concern of range, which will result in widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the country.”
The company says that the development and availability of electric vehicles for charging infrastructure is critical to the proliferation of electric vehicles in India. Tata Power currently has a wide network of over 500 public chargers across 100+ cities covering petrol pumps, metro stations, shopping malls, theaters and highways. The company is present in all segments of the EV eco-system which includes public charging, captive charging, home, workplace charging and ultra-rapid chargers for buses.
