Car manufacturing company Skoda is preparing to introduce electric vehicle in the Indian market. The company believes that the green mobility segment in the country will grow significantly during the next few years. However, Jack Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said that the company has no plans to introduce CNG vehicles at the moment.

We are planning a long term future in India: Jack Hollis
Jack Hollis, when asked if the company is looking to introduce electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, said, “We will have to (get into the EV segment), as we are planning a long-term future in India. Huh.” “We estimate that by 2030, 25-30 per cent of the market will be electric cars and we need to make sure that we play our part, so we will bring electric vehicles to market,” he said.
Hollis said that firms like Audi and Porsche have started offering high-end electric vehicles in the Indian market. Asked about the timeline for Skoda’s EV offering, Hollis said, “Can’t give a timeline as it is still under consideration.” On the introduction of CNG model, he said that at present there is no such plan.

The company wants to sell three times more vehicles this year
Skoda sells models like Kushaq, Slavia, Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq in the Indian market and is seeing a change in its business. The company has sold around 24,000 vehicles in the domestic market last year and this year it wants to sell triple that. Hollis said, “We are getting a great response. Change is clearly happening. We grew volumes by 140 per cent last year, we intend to triple our volumes this year by 2021.”
