While driving on the road, always keep in mind that there should be some distance between your vehicle and the other vehicle. Many times, due to not doing so, a serious road accident occurs. In such a situation, see in the video how the vehicles collided with each other.
Always maintain proper distance between cars to avoid tailgating
Many drivers in India tailgate the vehicle in front of them. In such a situation, driving too close to the vehicle in front of you can be dangerous. Cyberabad Traffic Police has uploaded a video on its Facebook page showing why the vehicle in front of you should not tailgate. In this accident near Ravi Hospital of KPHB, 4 vehicles collided with each other.
In the video we can see that four vehicles are involved in the accident. There is a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Swift, Dzire and a Mahindra Scorpio. It seems that the camera is fixed near the traffic light due to which all the vehicles are coming to a halt. When the first three trains stop, there is very little distance between them. Unfortunately, the Scorpio is not able to brake as efficiently due to which it collides directly with the Swift. In such a situation, Swift then hits the DZire and the DZire finally hits the Baleno.
How did this accident happen?
Well, at first all the vehicles were very close to each other. The Scorpio was coming very fast as compared to the speed of other vehicles. Also, there is a white rumble strip which broke the traction of the tyres of the Scorpio while applying the brakes. Due to this the SUV could not apply brakes and collided with Swift in front. But still, it seems that the speed of the Scorpio was very high and it was not possible for the driver to apply the brakes in time.
What is tailgating?
Tailgating means that you are driving too close to the vehicle in front of you and it is not safe. This greatly increases the chances of a collision if the driver in front applies the brakes suddenly. You should always keep a safe distance. Now, this “safe distance” depends on many factors like weather, speed, road and traffic.
What happens when you tailgate?
When you tailgate, you reduce your chances of stopping on time. This happens for many reasons. You don’t have a clear vision of what’s next. With this you cannot guess what could happen or what the situations are. In such a situation, you have very less time to think and take decisions. You apply the brakes but the car cannot stop in such a short distance. In the end the distance between you and other vehicles is not saved and the car collides directly.
You will not have enough time to react to speed breakers, potholes, people crossing the road or any abnormality. Something similar happened here, the Scorpio driver did not have enough time to react on the White Rumble strip. And the rumble strip breaks the traction of the tyres. This causes an increase in the stopping distance which you would not want as there is not enough distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.
