JCB, India’s leading producer of earthmoving and construction equipment, on Friday announced a special COVID relief package for its employees. More than 2000 JCB India employees and their families have been vaccinated since April at the company’s campuses located at Ballabgarh, Pune and Jaipur. The company is now ensuring that all its employees in India are vaccinated in the next few weeks.
Between April and May, when the second wave came, the cases of COVID in JCB factories also increased. JCB was one of the first companies that decided to temporarily close all its manufacturing works to prevent the spread of the virus. Several COVID control rooms were set up to monitor the positive cases of COVID-19. The company also provided telemedicine facility to all its employees in different parts of the country. More than 7600 tests were conducted during that phase and JCB had also set up a COVID Relief Center in its factory premises apart from arranging beds, oxygen and ambulances.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Shetty, CEO and Managing Director said, “The last few weeks have been a big lesson. Virtually all of our administration resources were harnessed for the health and safety of our employees and their families. Unfortunately, some of our colleagues also fell prey to the virus, which was sad. We are fully committed to supporting their families through the relief package.”
JCB India will provide one lakh rupees per child per year for schooling and two lakh rupees per child per year for graduation, apart from the benefits of term insurance policy, to support the education of the children of its deceased employees. The medical insurance of their families has also been extended for 10 years. There will be a one-time assistance of three lakh rupees for the contract employees.
