French carmaker Renault has increased the prices of its sub-compact SUV Renault Kiger. This car was launched in February this year. This SUV is currently the cheapest in India and has become expensive by up to Rs 33,000 within three months of its launch. Although Renault has not officially stated any reason behind the increase, there is a possibility that the global chip shortage may be the reason behind the decision to increase the price.
The Renault Kiger SUV was launched in India in February this year at an initial price of Rs 5.45 lakh. The price of its base variants RXE Energy MT and RXE Energy MT Dual Tone remains at Rs 5.45 lakh and Rs 5.65 lakh respectively, but the price of other variants has seen a price increase between Rs 3,000 to Rs 33,000.
How much has the price of Renault Kiger increased
The smallest increase has been for top-end variants such as the RXT X-Tronic CVT Dual Tone and RXZ X-Tronic CVT Dual Tone Cougars. The revised price of these variants is now 8.80 lakh rupees and 9.75 lakh rupees respectively. Earlier, the Kiger SUV was priced at Rs 9.72 lakh. The RXT Turbo MT Dual Tone variant of the Kiger SUV has seen the biggest price increase of Rs 33,000. The new price is now 8.10 lakh rupees instead of 7.77 lakh rupees. The price of the Kiger SUV’s RXT X-Tronic CVT and RXZ X-Tronic CVT variants also remain unchanged at Rs 8.60 lakh and Rs X 9.55 lakh respectively.
Renault launched the Kiger to make the tighter competition already underway in the sub-compact SUV segment in India. That is why the car was launched at an initial price of 5.45 lakhs compared to some smaller cars available in India, now it has started raising prices in its segment.
What is special about the Renault Kiger SUV
The Renault Kiger SUV comes with two petrol engine options, the first being a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3 cylinder petrol engine that generates 100 Ps of power and 160 Nm of torque. At the same time, a petrol engine with a 1.0-liter aspirated motor has been given which generates power of 72 Ps and torque of 96Nm. Renault has given a 5 speed manual transmission with both these engine options. Apart from this, for the best riding experience, you have been given three driving modes like Eco, Normal and Sport.
In the Indian market, this car is available in four variants including RXE, RXL, RXT and RXZ models. It has a fuel tank with a capacity of 40 liters.
The 2021 Kiger competes with Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonnet, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 in the sub-compact SUV segment.
