In the last several years, many cars have been made in India and many of them have been very successful, they have played their part in the domestic market as well as in the global markets. We have selected five cars for you, with some mentions.
1. Reva Aai
The Reva Eye was the first electric car in India. This electric car was sold in 26 global markets including India. The Reva Eye was the flagship model of the Bangalore-based company, after which Mahindra bought it. The car was sold in the Indian market in 2011 and was later replaced by the E2O electric hatchback.

2. DC Avanti
The DC Avanti may not have been as good looking and not so popular among the people, but the DC Avanti was the first sports car made in India. This was a very good initiative of ‘DC’, this sport car was brought in very reasonable price. However after a short time it failed. It has a 2.0-liter engine that provides 248 Bhp of power.
3. Hindustan Ambassador
Hindustan Ambassador is one of the most iconic cars in the Indian market. It is one of the first cars made in India. The car was introduced in 1958 and has been used by the former president to the Prime Minister and the common people.

4. Tata Indica
Tata Motors entered India’s passenger vehicle segment as Tata Indica. Earlier the company was known only for commercial vehicles but this car was brought in to compete with Maruti Zen and is one of the most successful cars in history.
Tata Indica was at one time the best-selling car in the country. After the success of this car, Tata Motors also brought it in sedan, estate and cab versions. Tata Indica was rebadged by Rover and sold on the outside market under the name CityRover.
5. Mahindra Scorpio
Like Tata Indica, Mahindra entered the passenger vehicle segment through the Mahindra Scorpio. The Mahindra Scorpio was the first company to have a country-made car and was introduced at the time of the company’s 50th anniversary.
The Mahindra Scorpio was first introduced in 2002 and till date remains one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. Now the company is going to bring the new generation of Mahindra Scorpio in 2021, the company has also started testing it.
Special Mention
1. Tata Nano
Tata Nano was the result of Ratan Tata’s dream of bringing the world’s cheapest car. It was brought in to replace two-wheeler and three-wheelers. Though it received good response initially, it soon came to an end. It was given several updates and finally the company discontinued it.
