New Delhi: The Indian government is aggressively pushing for the switch to electric vehicles, which is quite evident from the huge subsidies and discounts being offered on EVs. Massive incentives are also offered by many state governments to make the deal more affordable for the customers. In fact, the electric two wheelers eligible for the incentive have become much cheaper than their original price in some states. Let us take a look at the top five states (in no particular order) where electric two-wheelers are the cheapest today.
Maharashtra
Electric two-wheelers in Maharashtra get an incentive of Rs 5,000 per kWh on their battery capacity, while the maximum subsidy amount has been capped at Rs 25,000. In addition, electric vehicles have also been exempted from the entire road tax. To give you an example, the subsidy offered by the Maharashtra government on the Revolt RV 400 electric bike is around Rs 31,000, which has brought down its cost significantly in the state.

Gujarat
Compared to Maharashtra, the Gujarat government offers double incentives on electric two-wheelers which is Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity. However, the maximum subsidy is less than Rs 20,000 and the road tax exemption is only 50 per cent. Notably, the recently launched Ola S1 and S1 Pro are priced at Rs 79,999 and Rs 1,09,999 in Gujarat respectively.
Delhi
In the capital of the country, the maximum subsidy amount that can be given on electric two-wheeler vehicles is Rs 30,000. On the other hand, the incentive amount per kwh of battery capacity is Rs 5,000, which is less as compared to Gujarat. But 100 percent exemption from road tax is available in India like many other states. It is worth noting that the lowest price of Ather 450X electric scooter in Delhi is Rs 1,32,426 which includes FAME II and state-level subsidy.
West Bengal
In West Bengal, the incentive available on electric two-wheelers is Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity, which is the same subsidy as in Gujarat. Even the maximum subsidy is up to Rs 20,000, while 100 per cent rebate on road tax is also a part of the profit package. The state government is quite optimistic about its strategy for the adoption of electric mobility as it plans to bring in around one million electric vehicles in the next five years.
Bihar
Offering an incentive of Rs 10,000 per kWh battery and Rs 20,000 of the maximum allowed subsidy, the EV policy in Bihar is similar to that of West Bengal. In fact, it is the same case with Assam and Meghalaya. Along with this, buyers have been given 100% exemption from paying road tax. Now, considering the scale at which state and central governments are providing benefits on electric two-wheelers, we may soon see a dramatic shift towards electric mobility, economical in maintenance and the low running costs they offer. looking at.
