Hero Cycles, part of the Hero Motors Company (HMC) group, has successfully delivered the first batch of ‘Made-in-India’ e-bikes of around 200 units to Germany in Europe. The company aims to become a leader in the European Union (EU) market as more units are planned for the EU in the future. Hero International HMC’s European bike and e-bike arm said the company aims to achieve organic growth of up to Euro 300 million by 2025, while adding Euro 200 million from inorganic growth.
The company exported e-bikes under the HNF brand of Hero International. “The shipment is a step forward to establish HMC as the largest fully integrated e-bike company in Europe,” the company said. Hero believes that e-bike sales in Europe are expected to reach around 15 million units by 2030 and as such, it is poised to become the market leader in the segment.
Jeff Weiss, London-based CEO, Hero International said, “We look forward to combining Hero’s manufacturing capability with HNF’s engineering and design expertise to create high quality e-bikes, especially with the 100-acre cycle valley in Ludhiana.
The company said that its latest batch of e-bikes in Europe address the decline in the bicycle supply chain due to the coronavirus pandemic. While the supply dwindled and the lead times for components increased manifold, consumer demand for bikes and e-bikes skyrocketed.
Hero has also established a digital supply chain company – Hero Supply Chain (HSC) – with expertise in logistics management and digital transformation, to meet the growing demand for bikes and e-bikes. Hero Cycles has a manufacturing capacity of 60 lakh cycles per year and a network of plants located in Ludhiana in Punjab, Ghaziabad in UP and Bihta in Bihar. It has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka as well as a design center in the UK. It also owns Avocet Sports based in UK, HNF based in Germany and Firefox bikes in India.
