Aurrigo Shuttle Bus
The autonomous driver system is no longer limited to just the passenger vehicle. The UK has also recently started testing driverless shuttle buses. This bus is powered by electric motor and will be run on public road for public service.
Its name is Aurrigo Auto Shuttle. These special buses will be part of the special trial of Cambridge Sahar and will run on the 3.2 km route. As a trial, only the pre-selected passengers will be able to sit in it. But for this, they first have to use the Aurrigo app, from which they can choose any of the given stops and give information about where they will pick them up.
This bus will run at a speed of 32Kmph, these shuttle buses are not the fastest but they are enough to move within the city limits. Each bus can seat 10 passengers at a time and its range is 124 kilometers. With this, a battery pack of 47 kWh has been given in it.
This bus has been made by the conventry based engineering firm Aurrigo and the main objective of making this bus is to provide clean and better transport service to the people living in the city. The company has claimed on its website that these buses can be used as a shuttle for shift workers and reduce labor costs. Along with this, it is more safe for passengers and pedestrians than common buses.
Apart from this, it can also be used for airport shuttle bus, link connector and tourism purpose in city center and suburbs. However, it depends on how the trials go. For this, three buses will be sent on the road from June.
