The Delhi government has taken an important step towards a single window process for installation of slow and fast EV chargers. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited has issued Request for Selection (RFS) for empanelment of private charging infrastructure providers along with three Delhi Discoms BRPL, BYPL and TPDDL. Panel will be selected for slow and fast charger.
The customer will have the option of purchasing the EV charger for installation, one time purchase and monthly subscription basis. There will be a single window facility for installation of EV chargers through panels in private and semi-public places in Delhi. Through which EV charging can be made in residential places like apartments and group housing societies, institutional buildings like hospitals and commercial places like malls and theaters.
Once the facility is rolled out, customers will be able to compare the cost and features of different chargers on the websites of DISCOMs. Apart from this, you will be able to order-schedule for installation of charger through a phone and online medium. DDC vice-president Jasmin Shah said that under the scheme, discoms will enlist the lowest cost vendors in India to install EV chargers. In addition the charger will create a systematic process to be installed. Also, Delhi will provide government subsidy to the customers and will install meters on the basis of EV tariff.
According to Jasmin Shah, Delhi will be the first city in India to make Delhi the EV capital of India. Anyone can install an EV charger here, one has to apply for Delhi government subsidy by phone or online. The decision to empanel vendors through DISCOMs for single window facility and ease of installation of EV chargers at private and semi-public places was taken on 14 June 2020. This decision was taken in a meeting of the Charging Infrastructure and Working Group of Delhi Government, chaired by DDC VC Jasmin Shah.
Jasmin Shah said that creating a single window process by the Delhi government is an important step towards rapid installation of EV chargers in Delhi. After Delhi government’s Switch Delhi campaign, apartment societies, RWAs, mall owners said they want to install EV chargers but don’t know how. Due to this, work was done towards creating a single window process. After the launch of the scheme, any resident of Delhi will be able to request for installation of EV charger in his/her premises by calling or calling the online portal of the Discom.
After the implementation of the scheme, the single window process will ensure that the customers can apply for charger installation from the listed EV charger vendors of the DISCOMs in a transparent manner. Apart from this, customers will also be able to apply for electricity connection with special EV tariff. The scheme also includes disbursement of 100% subsidy of the cost of charging equipment. According to the Delhi EV policy, up to Rs 6,000 per charging point will be given for the first 30,000 charging points. With the different approach adopted by the Delhi government, low cost smart EV chargers will be easily available to the public. Thousands of such chargers can be installed across the city.
