According to Electrive, buses are being sent to Israel’s largest bus company Egged. The company has placed an order for 100 fully electric 12 meter long buses which are made by the renowned Chinese automobile manufacturer. These buses are planned to be shipped by the end of 2022 and will be used in Haifa, the third largest city in the country. Notably, this order is the largest electric bus shipment ever to Israel. Apart from this, the order is part of a larger Israeli tender for 200 buses. The company had earlier also received an order from Nobina in Finland.
It is also supported by the National Transport Authority of the country. Egged, which operates in the public transport sector, has selected BYD as its supplier and has been a Chinese brand customer since 2017. In the past, Egged also placed an order for 24 electric buses in its fleet, which are currently operating in Haifa and Jerusalem as well. The order will further strengthen the electric transport fleet in the city. The upcoming buses will be equipped with Iron Phosphate batteries which can lead to longer service life and increased energy density for longer distances as compared to the previous generation.
Its battery has a power of 422 kWh and it can come with a total range of up to 400 km. The Egged official said, “This is a momentous moment for the people of Israel and public transport in our country. We want to build a zero-emissions transportation system for the residents of Israel and it’s part of our commitment. We at BYD I am confident that it will provide pure electric buses so that the transport can be reliable, safe and comfortable for the passengers.”
