BMW iX Electric SUV: German luxury car maker BMW has launched its first electric car in India. The new BMW iX electric SUV has been launched in India today at a starting price of Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom). Booking for this has also started. However, the deliveries of this luxury electric SUV will start in April 2022. If you want to buy it, then you can book through online or by visiting your nearest BMW dealership. This first electric SUV from BMW has been brought in limited numbers through the CBU (Complete Built Unit) route.

Variants and Engines
The company globally unveiled the new BMW iX in November 2020. It is the production-spec version of BMW’s Vision iNext concept SUV, which was first showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The BMW iX has been offered globally in two variants – iX xDrive 40 and iX xDrive 50. However, only its iX xDrive 40 variant has been launched in India. The xDrive 40 variant generates 326 hp power and 630 Nm peak torque, while the xDrive 50 variant makes 523 hp power and 765 Nm peak torque. Furthermore, the xDrive 40 variant takes 6.1 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kmph, while the xDrive 50 variant takes only 4.6 seconds.
Battery and driving range
The BMW iX gets two electric motors (one on each axle), while an all-wheel-drive system is offered as standard, they can also be used in the pure rear-wheel-drive set-up. In terms of driving range, the xDrive 40 has a claimed driving range of up to 425 km, while the xDrive 50 can cover a distance of 611 km on a single charge. This is because the xDrive 40 packs a 76.6 kWh battery pack while the xDrive 50 packs a bigger 105.2 kWh battery. Using a 150 kW DC fast charger, the India-spec iX xDrive 40 can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 31 minutes.

Charging time and features
Also, via a 50 kW DC fast charger, the iX xDrive 40 can be charged up to 80 percent in 73 minutes. At the same time, it will take about 7 hours for the electric SUV to be fully charged through the 11 kW AC wall box charger. In terms of features, the BMW iX gets a new hexagonal steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a large 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a HUD or heads-up display, among others. Also, it recently got a full 5-star safety rating at Euro NCAP. In India, the new BMW iX electric SUV will take on the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-PACE etc.
