Police believe that Tesla’s car was in autopilot mode and due to this it hit a tree, killing two people, although it is being denied by the company.
Tesla Accident
Two people died in a Tesla car accident in Texas, USA. On the basis of preliminary investigation in this matter, the police has said that this car was running in autopilot mode. Now there is another news about this that the Texas Police can issue a search warrant for Tesla Inc. today to secure the data of the crashed vehicle. A senior officer has given this information to Reuters. This decision has been taken after Elon Musk’s company made a statement that the car’s autopilot driver system was not engaged.
Regarding the case, Harris County Contable Mark Herman reported that a vehicle was going high in the north of Houston late Saturday night when it crashed into a tree and killed two people. He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that there was no one on the driver seat of this 2019 Model S car of Tesla.
How two people died
Harmon said that he has taken a statement of the people present there, in which they told that they were doing a test drive of the vehicle without a driver and wanted to show their friend how it drives on its own.
Talking about Tesla’s autopilot feature, it is a driver assistance system that handles some of the driver’s tasks and allows the driver to drive without having to put their hands on the steering wheel. But Tesla says that this feature requires active driver supervision and does not make the vehicle autonomous.
Company CEO Elon Musk gives clarification
However, in his tweet, Musk has dismissed the allegation on the vehicle’s semi-automated driving software. He said that according to the data recovered so far, the autopilot was not enabled and this car did not buy full-self driving.
Musk further said that the standard autopilot requires the turn of lane lines which are not on this street. This means that to enable the autopilot, it is necessary to capture road markers through vehicle cameras that were not on the accident road.
Tesla has access to operational and diagnostic data from the car at the “regular interval” to the server, which the police has acquired. It is no longer clear whether investigators in a severely burned vehicle will be able to obtain data directly from the event data recorder.
Let me tell you that a few hours before this incident, American giants EV maker Tesla chief Elon Musk made it clear in a tweet that the chances of accident are now reduced by 10 times compared to Tesla’s first vehicles with autopilot.
27 cases are already being investigated on Tesla
Let us tell you that this case will be investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the agency regulating vehicle safety. This is the 28th case of a Tesla car accident. NHTSA told Reuters that last month they have opened 27 cases of Tesla vehicles crashes, out of which 23 are still active and it is believed that these cases are related to autopilot.
