The Honda City eHEV Sport Hybrid was first unveiled for the Malaysia market but the company has decided to launch it first in the Thailand market.
This variant is in the new blue shade. This hybrid sedan is expected to be launched later in many other countries including Malaysia. Honda has confirmed that it plans to bring hybrid variants of the City to India. It is expected that it can be launched in the first half of 2021. The price can be 18-20 lakh rupees, which will be much higher than the price of a standard Honda City sedan.
Hybrid powertrain
The City eHEV Sport Hybrid uses the shortest version of Honda’s i-MMD (Intelligent Multi Mode Drive) hybrid system. This system draws power from an electric motor and petrol engine. The car’s electric motor is capable of generating 108 PS power and maximum torque of 253 Nm, while the 1.5L Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine can generate 98 PS power and peak torque of 127 Nm. Honda has installed a direct drive setup to deliver power to the wheels in the City e: HEV Sport Hybrid and has eliminated the need for a conventional gearbox. It is claimed that the mileage of this new variant is 27.8 kmpl, according to the new European driving cycle.
