According to the number of people who lost their jobs in the financial year 2019-20, according to the corona epidemic, 55 lakh jobs were lost in the financial year 2020-21, but when it comes to salaried jobs, this figure reaches 1 crore. According to Mahesh Vyas, CEO and MD of the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), about 60 lakh jobs in these 10 million jobs went from the rural sector where workers were badly affected due to the crisis on MSMEs and other industrial units.
Due to lack of opportunities in companies and small establishment, the labor force is shifting towards the agriculture sector, which is creating a situation of unemployment in a way. This is exactly the reverse trend in a way when the economy was liberalized, people were coming out of the fields to work in factories.
Maharashtra declared six states including Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand as ‘Sensitive Origin’, important decision to stop the spread of other variants
Increased livelihood crisis due to restriction
More than half of the factories in Maharashtra are either closed or on the verge of closure. According to Vyas, the corona infection in cities is rapidly deepening and due to this, the states are putting more and more restriction which can lead to more livelihoods of people. There is a possibility of Talking about the 30-day moving average unenployment standard of CMIE, joblessness was 7 per cent on April 11, which has now increased to 7.4 per cent, meaning that people are losing employment rapidly. Vyas estimates that there has been a 20 per cent decline in household income and there is no improvement in wages in rural areas since October 2020 last year.
Pressure on salaried personnel to develop new skills
Most workers in the informal sector will be able to work soon because they cannot remain sitting like this, but they will definitely have to bear the loss of earnings. According to Vyas, the maximum pressure is on salaried workers because it is difficult for them to develop new skills and then according to them it is also difficult to find a new job. He says that today, who is working as a draftsman, he cannot work as an agricultural worker tomorrow and his concern is very big if about 10 million salaried jobs have been lost.
Employment opportunities in government departments
He expressed concern that the investment plan of most governments was capital intensive which was going to benefit foreign companies. According to Vyas, it is very important to give good employment opportunities. Vyas believes that there is a huge shortage of personnel in many government departments such as the Health and Police departments. In such a situation, the government should make more and more recruitments so that their services can be made available to the citizens in a better way.
Declining number of women workers
People who earn every day from the restructures imposed due to Corona were forced to stay at home due to which nearly 1.2 crore people lost jobs after the epidemic, most of them from the informal sector. In comparison, about 3 million people had to lose their jobs after demonetisation. The condition of those who lost employment due to Corona had improved only once in January 2021 when the employment figure reached 40 crores. Apart from this, there is another concern that the participation in the employment of women wages is decreasing.
