new Delhi: The Delhi Election Commission has not announced the dates for the MCD elections. In a press conference held on Wednesday, State Election Officer SK Srivastava said that the central government is contemplating to merge the three municipal corporations, due to which we are not announcing the dates yet. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has attacked the central government and the BJP for not announcing the dates for the MCD elections.
MCD Election: Conducting law investigation
Srivastava said, “Since the central government has raised some issues which are legally yet to be examined by us, we will not be able to announce the dates for the MCD elections as of now. We’ll take a few more days. We have to hold elections before May 18.”
“We are not postponing the elections. If the integration of municipal corporations takes place before May 18, we will have to examine the situation. So we need time now to get a legal opinion on this.”

PM Modi will not conduct elections
Arvind Kejriwal has attacked the central government and BJP for not announcing the dates of MCD elections. He tweeted and wrote, “BJP ran away. MCD election postponed, conceded defeat. Delhiites are very angry. They are saying that they have the courage not to conduct elections? Now their bail will be confiscated. In our survey, out of 272 seats, 250 seats were coming up. Now more than 260 will come. But the Election Commission should not have come under the pressure of the BJP.”
Attacking Prime Minister Modi, Kejriwal said, “Can the central government “instruct” any Election Commission to postpone or cancel an election? Under which provision? Are these “guidelines” binding on the Election Commission? Why is the Election Commission bowing under pressure? Modi ji won’t even conduct elections in this country now?
Can central govt “direct” any EC to delay/cancel any elections? Under which provision? Are these “directions” binding on EC?
Why is EC buckling under pressure?
