Nagpur. Hawala trader Saurabh Keswani, arrested in the city’s famous Rs 30 lakh ransom case, was sent to police custody till February 22 by Additional Chief Justice Magistrate Ingle. It is noteworthy that this case has been registered on the complaint of Anoop Nagaria in Lakadganj police station, in which the accused took 60 lakh rupees on the basis of their identity and pretended to free their brother who was in jail.
The accused took Rs 30 lakh from them but when Anoop’s brother came out of jail, the whole matter was busted. In the police investigation, the strings of hawala business were seen connecting in this case. After this the police arrested Manoj Vanjani, hawala trader Radha, Naresh Parmar and Sanjay Mandani. However, Keswani surrendered before the police.
Accepted to take 10 lakh rupees
Investigating officer Sidam produced the accused Keswani before the court on Friday. During the hearing, the court was told that Keswani has accepted to take Rs 10 lakh out of 25 lakh. In such a situation, this amount has to be recovered from him, so police custody should be given till February 27. On the other hand, Advocate Kamal Satuja and Advocate Kailash Dodani argued on behalf of the defense that Keswani has been implicated on false charges.
The Vanjani brothers have been charged with demanding money or extortion from the complainant and making alleged threats. Keswani had not demanded any money, but he himself surrendered last evening to cooperate in the investigation. No offense of extortion is made out against him. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court sent Keswani to police custody till February 22.
