New Delhi: Two persons from Jharkhand have been arrested for duping several people by pretending to provide service through customer care assistance. The police gave this information on Thursday. Abhishek Kumar (22) and Raju Ansari (22) were arrested from Dumka in Jharkhand, they said. Police said Kumar, the main conspirator, used to put his phone number on the internet under the name of various customer care websites. He was operating this gang for the last six months and his partner Ansari used to arrange bank accounts from his village Asansol in West Bengal.
Police said that eight bank accounts in which Rs 82 lakh were deposited have been frozen. This money was deposited by duping many people. According to the police, a case came to light when a victim was defrauded of Rs 4.78 lakh and lodged a police complaint. The complaint said that the victim was searching the customer care of ‘MakeMyTrip’ website on January 7 to get the money back when he found the number of the accused.

Police said that the accused, while talking to the victim on the phone, introduced himself as an employee of ‘Make My Trip’ company. The victim then filled up a form sent by the accused over the phone and installed the ‘AnyDesk App’. After this, Rs 4,78,278 was withdrawn from the victim’s HDFC bank account, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) R. Satyasundaram said that during interrogation accused Abhishek admitted that he had put his phone number on Google Ads in the name of customer care assistance of Flipkart, Make My Trip, Airlines etc. After receiving calls from the victims, he used to ask them to fill a form and install the Any Desk app.
The official said that after installing the app, he used to monitor the victim’s phone screen through the app and read the bank’s SMS through another app. The DCP said that after knowing the details of the bank, he used to withdraw money from the victim’s account. (agency)
