Nagpur. A ransom of Rs 60 lakh was demanded from the family in the name of getting a transport businessman released from jail in a criminal case. By intimidation, the accused also recovered Rs 30 lakh. The matter reached the ears of the top officials and FIR was registered against 3 people at the Tehsil police station. The accused include Manoj Vanjani (61), Ashok Vanjani (65) and Saurabh Keswani, residents of Chandralok Building. A case was registered on the complaint of Anil Maheshchandra Nagaria, a resident of Old Bhandara Road.
The Vanjani brothers are the operators of Vasan Wine Shop, active in liquor smuggling. Cases of liquor smuggling are also registered against both. Anil’s brother Anoop Nagaria is the operator of Mauranipur Transport. A case of cheating was registered against him in Lakadganj police station. Anoop was arrested on 27 January. He was in police custody till February 1.
Meanwhile, on January 3, the Vanjani brothers called Anoop’s brother Anil. Told them that your brother cannot be released from jail. He has a good reputation in jails and courts. Without his help, Anoop cannot get out of jail. The accused demanded Rs 60 lakh to get him out of jail.
The accused Saurabh Keswani was also talked to. Saurabh also threatened Anil. In the name of getting Anoop freed, the accused recovered Rs 30 lakh from Anil. Later, Anil came to know about his forgery. He complained to the police commissioner. CP directed DCP Crime to investigate the matter and register a case. A case of ransom recovery has been registered against the accused in the Tehsil police station.
