NetBlocks has said internet connectivity in Yemen has been ruined after an airstrike on a telecommunications building. The San Diego-based Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis and San Francisco-based Internet firm Cloudflare have also noted nationwide outages in Yemen. Internet has not been restored in the country even after 12 hours.
The Houthi’s al-Masirah satellite news channel said several people were killed and injured in the attack on the telecommunications building. Some footage related to the attack has also been released. It is being told that many people covered in blood have been taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, al-Maseera said an airstrike also hit a prison in Yemen’s northern Saada province early Friday. Many people were killed and injured in this attack. It is not yet known how many people have been injured. At the same time, the Saudi-led coalition has admitted to carrying out airstrikes around the port of Hodeida. The alliance, however, did not admit to targeting the telecom building.
Passing under the sea, the FALCON cables reach Hodeida Port, from where the Internet is delivered throughout the region. Most of Yemen’s population lives in this area. Due to the attack here internet service has been stopped all over the country. Although the FALCON cable also reaches Yemen’s eastern port of Ghayda, its use is negligible. In 2020 also FALCON cables were cut due to a ship. Even then the internet in Yemen was stalled.
