New Delhi. Samajwadi Party (SP) member Jaya Bachchan was so hurt by a “personal remark” against her in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that she cursed members of the ruling party that her “bad days” are soon to come. An enraged Bachchan told Asan that he should be fair. He also accused the voice of the opposition of being suppressed. Participating in the discussion on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, Bachchan sought to raise the issue of suspension of 12 opposition members and made any veiled remarks about them without naming the sitting chairperson Bhuvneshwar Kalita. Rakesh Sinha, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), objected to it, raising the question of the system.
Sinha said that Jaya Bachchan’s remarks are questioning the posture. On this, the presiding chairman said that he would take a decision after looking at the record. Despite this, however, Bachchan kept on keeping his word. He said that at a time when there are many serious issues in the country, the House has allotted three-four hours of discussion time to rectify a “clerical mistake”. Amidst the uproar, he alleged that a member had made personal remarks against him and sought the protection of the seat on the issue. “How can he make personal remarks in the House…Aap people’s bad days will come…I curse,” Bachchan said.
However, what private comment was made on Bachchan could not be heard due to the uproar. Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh early next year and leaders of the BJP and the Samajwadi Party are attacking each other. It is noteworthy that today his daughter-in-law and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a case related to the 2016 ‘Panama Papers’ leak episode.

According to official sources, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was questioned under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The Samajwadi Party has accused the Center of targeting its leaders due to political malice. The BJP, on the other hand, has denied the allegation. Presiding Speaker Kalita repeatedly urged Jaya Bachchan to speak about the Bill. In response to this, the SP member said that efforts are being made to suppress the voice of the opposition members.
Kalita said Asan will look into the record and if there is any unparliamentary remark, it will be removed. Meanwhile, the Chair asked the next member to speak on the Bill. But due to continuous uproar in the house, the house was adjourned for about 30 minutes. (agency)
