A member of the Nihang sect has been arrested for assaulting a laborer and fracturing his leg at Singhu Border in Haryana’s Sonepat. The incident allegedly took place when the man refused to give “free chicken” to accused Naveen Kumar. An FIR has been registered in the matter. As reported by India Today, the police suspect that the attack was allegedly carried out by Nihang Sikhs, who were also involved in the murder of a Dalit man a few days back.
The deceased has been identified as Manoj Paswan, working in a poultry farm. According to reports, the incident took place on Thursday when the victim was passing through the protest site carrying chickens in his vehicle when he was stopped by a man dressed as Nihang Sikhs.
The DSP said that the man allegedly demanded a free chicken from Paswan. When Paswan denied this, the man allegedly thrashed him and broke his leg. Police said that the accused has been identified as Naveen, a resident of Karnal district of Haryana.

Notably, this incident comes days after the mutilated body of Lakhbir Singh, a Dalit man from Tarn Taran in Punjab, was found at the Singhu border. The Nirvair Khalsa-Udna Dal, a group of Nihang Sikhs, admitted to killing the man and said that he was killed for allegedly committing “mutilation”.
The Punjab government on Wednesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circumstances that led to the lynching of a Dalit man at the Singhu border last week. She was allegedly murdered by members of a Nihang group.
Government sources said the SIT would probe the alleged meetings between Nihang leaders and the central government. This comes after media reports that Nihang leader Aman Singh had secretly met BJP leaders. Sources said that Director of the Bureau of Investigation Varinder Kumar will head the SIT.
Sources said a probe has been ordered as the victim Lakhbir Singh was a resident of Punjab and his family had also demanded justice for him. The present Punjab government has alleged conspiracy behind the incident involving the Nihang group on the Singhu border.
Officials said the SIT will also probe the background of Baba Sarvjit Singh, who surrendered before the Sonepat police for Lakhbir’s murder.
