Apple’s analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed in a new research note that the Cupertino-based tech giant may launch its first foldable iPhone in 2024, compared to 2023 earlier. “We have refined our projections to delay the launch of the under-display fingerprinted iPhone and the foldable iPhone to 2023 and 2024, respectively,” iMore quoted Kuo as saying. We believe this will hurt iPhone shipments in 2022 and 2023.

15 to 20 million units of foldable iPhone will be ready
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the shipment target of the upcoming foldable iPhone is expected to range from 15 to 20 million units. The GSArena report states that when this device is unfolded, then its display will be 7.5 inches. It will also have the facility of QHD+ resolution. The report says that the supplier will once again be Samsung, but it will use Silver Nanowire Touch technology developed by TPK, which will be better than Samsung’s Wi-Okta approach.

The report also mentions brands like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor that will enter the foldable smartphone race by the end of this year or early next year. For these, 1.7 crore volumes have been expected. The upcoming foldable iPhone with a design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip will also be more affordable than its competitors in the same market.
Apple is also in the process of engineering an iPhone with a folding display similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the iPhone maker has ordered a batch of foldable displays from Samsung, suggesting that it is working on a foldable iPhone. A report has claimed that the company may also discontinue the iPad mini after the launch of its foldable iPhone.
