In view of the review process and application flow, the company had put this verification process on hold for a few days. But now it has been restarted.
Twitter Verification Process Has Started
Micro-blogging site Twitter has resumed its account verification process. The company gave this information. As reported by TechCrunch, Twitter said that users who want to do the verification will have to check their account settings frequently to access the in-app application.
Since starting the verification process afresh, Twitter had run into some glitches, forcing it to turn off verification more than once. These pauses were most recently announced on August 13, when the company said it needed to improve both the application and verification process.
The report states that the micro-blogging site has been struggling for account verification for years. Everyone wants that the blue tick which was given earlier for the accounts of celebrities and other big people, should now be given to the common users as well. This includes government officials, journalists, celebs, users of brands or businesses.
The issue came to light when it was discovered in 2017, Twitter verified an account belonging to Jason Keller, the man who organized the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, Twitter officially halted verification, but continued to quietly conduct verification for certain individuals, including candidates for public office, elected public officials, journalists and others. Finally, the company rebooted the system in May 2021 saying it had been rebuilt and would now have a dedicated team.
It has also issued new rules that more clearly state who can and cannot request verification, the report said. The demand for verification was so great that Twitter had to temporarily stop verification eight days after its launch so that the team could capture the number of requests. After its restart, Twitter halted the system again in August, explaining it needed more time to fix things.
